"♫ Every day's great at your local Tanaka's! ♫"

The president of a convenience store chain called Tanaka's, he set his sights on Lunarvale to further monopolize the industry.

Facts about Tanaka

  • Tanaka's is a local convenience store chain that has about 100,000 locations. Though the second floor is usually a diner, other locations have had things like an office, arcade, game store, clothing shop, and other stores.
  • Tanaka is good friends with Gracie and Label, wearing the latter's sunglasses as a sign of wealth. Tanaka doesn't always see eye-to-eye with them however, especially with Tanaka's business practices and Gracie's refusal to open a shop on Lunarvale.
  • Tanaka's less-than-moral business practices would almost certainly get Tanaka in hot water. However, being that he usually keeps his practices under wraps, and Hilda pushing away and not opening up to Marianne, Marianne has effectively been left in the dark.
  • Tanaka doesn't see Pandora as a bad person. Rather, he sees them as an opportunity, someone he can use to further his brand and business. Pandora is aware of this, and letting Tanaka dig his own grave.
  • Tanaka and Hilda have a strenuous relationship. Ever since summoning Pandora, Hilda has sought apple cider as an escape, something she's lately become dependant on. And with Tanaka being the only importer, he essentially swindles her with a rate she can barely afford. Hilda has considered bringing this to Marianne, but the fear of being yelled at scares her too much.

  • Tanaka's name originates from the character of the same name from Persona 3, a JRPG by Atlus. Both are cunning businessmen who make shady deals with and often swindles customers. Tanaka's name is japanese, meaning "rice field," despite Lunarvale's Tanaka being English.
  • Marianne's armband number is "711." This is a reference to the popular American convenience store chain "7/11," which had its own island in Animal Crossing.
