Facts about Barney

  • Barney is not the only police officer on Lunarvale, as there are other stand-ins for residents seen in the basement jail. However, he is the only officer that makes a physical appearance.
  • Barney's favorite villager is Copper. His least favorite is Rasher.
  • Barney would often like to take the easiest option in his career, simply following orders and asking questions later. However, this often conflicts with his morals, wanting to understand motivations while trying to arrest someone.
  • Barney's will has only been shaken once in his career, when he was forced to evict a villager for his own safety. Despite having been covered up, it still haunts Barney to this day.
  • Barney is implied to be the one doing the main tasks in the police station, things like arrests and filing paperwork. Whether this is to keep him busy or from asking questions about the island is uncertain.

  • Barney's name comes from the security guard from Valve's "Half-Life," a first-person shooter about a science expirement that goes horribly wrong. Barney's name is English in origin, meaning "son of encouragement."
  • Barney's armband number is "693." This is another Half-Life reference, as "a half life period of a first order chemical reaction is 6.93 minutes."
